Where drywall makes sense
Typical applications include dividing a large bedroom into two for a growing family, creating a home office or study within an open-plan area, closing off a passage, subdividing open-plan offices into meeting rooms and private offices, building storage rooms in warehouses, and creating bulkheads and dropped ceilings for lighting and services. Because the system is lightweight it can be installed on suspended floors without structural concern, which brick construction frequently cannot.
How we build partitions
We set out the line, fix a floor track and ceiling track, and install steel studs at the specified centres — closer centres where heavy fixings such as wall-mounted televisions, basins or cabinets will be attached, with noggins and plywood pattresses installed at those positions so you are not screwing into hollow board later. Services are routed through stud knockouts before boarding. Boards are fixed to both faces, joints are taped and filled in multiple passes, corners are beaded, and the surface is sanded to a flat finish ready for paint. Where required we install insulation within the cavity.
Acoustic and fire performance
A standard single-layer partition offers limited sound reduction, which surprises people who expected privacy. Where acoustic performance matters — bedrooms, consulting rooms, meeting rooms — we build with acoustic insulation in the cavity, double-layer boarding with staggered joints, acoustic sealant at perimeters and, where necessary, resilient channels or a staggered stud arrangement. Fire-rated partitions use specific board types and thicknesses in tested configurations, and we install strictly to the manufacturer's tested detail because a fire-rated wall built approximately is not fire rated at all.
Doors, glazing and finishes
Partitions rarely stand alone. We install door frames and doors within partitions, integrate glazed panels and clerestory glazing where borrowed light is wanted, install service boxes for power and data, and finish everything with cornices and skirtings to match the existing building. Our painting team can complete the finish so you receive a partition that reads as an original wall rather than an obvious afterthought.
